Essential FAFSA Prep Checklist

Create Your Account (FSA ID): Both student and parents need a username and password at studentaid.gov.
Personal Information:
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Alien Registration Number (if not a U.S. citizen)
- Driver's license number (optional)
- Dates of birth (student and parents)
Financial Records (Example: 2024 tax year for 2026-27 FAFSA):
- Federal income tax returns (IRS 1040)
- W-2 forms and records of money earned
- Current bank/brokerage statements (checking, savings, investments)
- Net worth of businesses, investment farms, and 529 plans
- Records of untaxed income (child support, veteran’s benefits)

- Emails & details for parents or spouses needed to invite them to the form
- List of Colleges: Identify up to 20 schools to receive your information
